About the point of interest

Monsanto Forest Park is Lisbon's largest green space and a true natural sanctuary, playing an essential role in the city's environmental enhancement and in promoting its climate resilience.

With an area of over 1,000 hectares, the Park combines natural landscape, biodiversity, historical heritage and leisure areas, making it a vital space for socializing and well-being for the inhabitants of Lisbon and the surrounding municipalities.

It is a multifunctional and lively space, where families enjoy outdoor leisure, friends meet, schools develop educational activities and communities reconnect with nature. The alternation between closed forest, clearings and panoramic views over the city and the river creates a unique experience that combines tranquillity and urban energy.

With traces of human occupation dating back centuries, Monsanto preserves ruins, quarries and historic trails, testimony to a past that links the city's natural and cultural heritage.

About the point of interest

The 8-hectare São Domingos de Benfica Forest is the oldest green space in the Monsanto Forest Park in Lisbon. Located in the northern part of the park and bordered by the Sintra train line, it is one of the city's main lungs.

The forest is dominated by large eucalyptus trees and has various facilities, such as a climbing tower, an obstacle course and a children's playground, which make it an ideal place for leisure activities and environmental education.
